Dawn Carr is the Director of Legacy West Midlands, and a co-founder of the Black Heritage Walks Network CIC.
She as a strong background in delivering heritage projects and super-diversity initiatives, focusing on Black and minority ethnic groups at both local, national level and international level. She has supported the development of walking tours and educational workshops about the Lunar Society and other historic figures in Handsworth, Birmingham.

In addition, she has developed and led heritage education programs in schools, libraries, and community settings. As a Co-Founder and lead historian for Black Heritage Walks Network CIC, Dawn has been instrumental in shaping the vision and direction of the organisation.

She works to ensure that the voices and stories of Black communities are heard and preserved. Her role as a lead historian involves extensive research and documentation of Black heritage in the UK. Dawn received an inaugural scholarship with the Society of Architectural Historians to research the preservation of the Caribbean 'Front Room’.

Dawn actively engages with the community to design and implement interactive walks and immersive cultural exhibitions and film festivals that showcase the rich heritage of Black community in the UK.

Dawn collaborates with various organisations & institutions to promote tourism and cultural exchange between the UK and other ethnic minorities countries, to foster an understanding between different communities. Through her work she has championed Queens of Amathus – a film documentary, which explores the settlement of the Greek Cypriot community in Birmingham.

More recently, Dawn partnered with the School of Coding in Wolverhampton to offer a cohort of students to explore opportunities to work, study or trade with India.

The three-week placement provided a valuable first-hand experiences of software engineering, digital marketing, government agencies and global trade from India. The programme was also designed to develop the soft skills, cultural awareness and independence of the participants, which will enable their social mobility and enhance their careers.
